Implement Four-Day School Weeks in Ohio

The Issue

I am an Ohio resident who feels the pressure and stress of a five-day school week. This system, while traditional, can be overwhelming for students and educators alike. It's time we consider a change to four-day school weeks.

A four-day school week is not an untested idea. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, nearly 560 districts in 25 states have one or more schools on a four-day schedule. Most importantly, these districts report higher student and staff satisfaction rates (NCSL).

In addition to improving mental health by reducing stress levels among students and teachers, this shift could also lead to financial savings for our schools. The Center for Public Education found that switching to a four-day week can save between 0.4% and 2.5% of a district's budget (CPE).

This change would not compromise our children's education either; studies show that there is no significant difference in academic performance between five- and four-day school weeks (Education Week).

It's clear that the benefits are substantial - reduced stress levels, potential cost savings, maintained academic standards - all while giving our children an extra day each week to rest and recharge.
