The Issue

Our peaceful neighborhood in Eagle Point, OR has always been a haven of natural beauty and tranquility. Nestled against rural land, our existing subdivision has offered residents a unique environment that blends community living with the untouched charm of nature. Yet, this delicate balance is now threatened by a proposed rezoning that would drastically alter our neighborhood.

The Jackson County Libraries have been contacted and now are highlighting a book entitled:

"Firescaping Your Home, A Manual for Readiness in Wildfire County" by Adrienne Edward an Rachel Schleiger

This book will be added to the online Libraries Adult Education booklist. It is a great resource for the community and hopefully developers and community planning committees will be able to implement more Firewise standards and practices moving forward. We are not opposed to sustainable development with Firewise standards and practices.

The proposal for Fellows West Subdivision seeks to introduce a high-density housing development, which raises significant concerns. The sheer number of homes proposed is incompatible with the existing landscape. This increase in density would not only strain local resources but also disrupt the character and lifestyle that attracted us to Eagle Point in the first place.

Additionally, the proposed development lacks adherence to "firewise" standards, a crucial oversight given the rising frequency and severity of wildfires in our region. Firewise principles are critical as they minimize the risk of fire to people, property, and adjacent landscapes. Without these standards, our community could face heightened risks that can result in devastating consequences.

This proposed change poses a threat not only to our homes and the tranquil environment we've come to cherish but also to our safety. It is imperative that any new developments align with both our community's needs and environmental realities.

By signing this petition, you join us in urging the local authorities to reconsider this high-density rezoning. Let's advocate for a development that respects the essence of Eagle Point and prioritizes the safety and well-being of its residents. Your support is crucial for preserving the integrity and safety of our cherished community. Please sign this petition to halt the proposed plans for Fellows West Subdivision and demand a more balanced solution.
