Implement Financial Literacy Classes in All Gwinnett County Schools
Implement Financial Literacy Classes in All Gwinnett County Schools
The Issue
I, like many others, have witnessed the struggles that arise from a lack of financial knowledge. Too many people are unprepared for their future and thus face financial distress when they become adults. This is a reality not just in our community here in Norcross, GA, but across the world, and it's time we address it head on.
Financial literacy is a critical life skill that helps individuals make informed decisions about money management - budgeting, saving, borrowing and investing. Yet this crucial subject often gets overlooked in our education system. According to the Council for Economic Education’s 2020 Survey of the States (source), only 21 states require high school students to take a course in personal finance.
We believe that every student deserves access to financial education regardless of their background or future career path. By implementing mandatory financial literacy classes across all high schools in Norcross, we can equip our youth with the knowledge they need to navigate their finances effectively and avoid potential economic hardship. Even if students are given the option on wether to persue this class or not, it must be at the very least offered.
Our request is simple yet impactful: Incorporate comprehensive financial literacy classes into all high school curriculums within Gwinnett County schools. We urge local educational authorities to recognize this pressing need and take immediate action towards preparing our students for a financially stable future.
Please sign this petition if you believe every student should have access to quality financial education before stepping into adulthood.
