Implement Family Visits for Inmates in Pennsylvania Prisons

Implement Family Visits for Inmates in Pennsylvania Prisons
The Issue
My husband has been incarcerated for 16 years with 19 years left before he is eligible for parole. The pain of separation is unbearable, but what's even more distressing is the fact that our family lacks the opportunity to visit him frequently for overnight visits. I firmly believe that having family visits with your spouse can help eliminate violence and bring testosterone levels down within prisons. It can also improve behavioral problems as inmates will strive to stay out of trouble in order not to lose their visits.
In Pennsylvania, there are over 48,000 people incarcerated (Pennsylvania Department of Corrections). These individuals have families who yearn for their presence and long to maintain a connection despite the circumstances. Regular family visits can significantly contribute towards maintaining familial ties and promoting rehabilitation.
Studies show that maintaining strong family connections during incarceration reduces recidivism rates by up to 13% (Vera Institute of Justice). This means fewer crimes committed post-release, leading to safer communities overall.
We urge the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections to implement policies allowing regular family visits for inmates with their spouses. This change will not only benefit families like mine but also contribute positively towards inmate behavior and post-incarceration reintegration into society.
Please sign this petition if you believe in fostering stronger familial bonds and promoting rehabilitation over punishment. Your signature could make a significant difference in thousands of lives across Pennsylvania.
