Implement EWS quota in Tamil Nadu

Implement EWS quota in Tamil Nadu
The Issue
I am part of the General Category and belong to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Despite being granted a 10% reservation under this category by the Government of India, the non-implementation of this policy in Tamil Nadu has directly affected my opportunities in government jobs and educational institutions. This deeply personal issue has caused countless individuals like me to feel unjustly barred from our rightful entitlements.
The EWS reservation was introduced in 2019 through the 103rd Constitutional Amendment Act, allowing individuals from the General Category with an annual family income of less than ₹8 lakh, who are not SC, ST, or OBC, to avail a 10% reservation in jobs and educational institutes. This act aims to aid those who are economically disadvantaged, ensuring they receive fair opportunities to thrive both professionally and academically. Yet, Tamil Nadu remains an outlier in not implementing this crucial legislative measure.
Statistically, numerous students and job aspirants from the EWS have been unable to compete on an equal footing. According to reports, roughly 200,000 students each year miss out on potential opportunities due to the state's non-adherence to this reservation policy. Without the EWS quota, many deserving candidates facing financial difficulties continue to struggle under the weight of competition they aren't equipped to handle.
This issue is not only about fairness but also about empowering a segment of society that the central government has rightfully recognized for support. By not implementing the EWS quota, Tamil Nadu is neglecting a significant part of its populace and denying them crucial welfare measures designed to bridge the inequality gap.
I urge the Tamil Nadu Government to consider the needs of EWS candidates and promptly implement the 10% EWS reservation. This decision will not only align the state with national policies but will also provide thousands of deserving aspirants with the opportunities they need to improve their lives.
Please sign this petition to advocate for the implementation of the EWS quota in Tamil Nadu. Your support is vital in aiding economically weaker sections to access the education and employment opportunities they are rightfully entitled to.
