Implement Equal Rights for Fathers in Parenting Time and Custody

Implement Equal Rights for Fathers in Parenting Time and Custody

The Issue

I am one of the many fathers who have been coerced and threatened into agreeing to a parenting time schedule that is unjust and biased due to false allegations. Like me, numerous fathers experience the unfavorable end of the parenting time and custody arrangements, often pushed aside, restricted, and marginalized, resulting in an uneven distribution of parental rights.

According to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau, a shocking 17.5% of custodial parents are men, indicating that mothers will get custody 82.6% of the time. This lopsided ratio infringes upon a father's fundamental right to parent. A study by Psicothema also concluded that non-residential fathers face higher levels of depression than residential fathers, highlighting the deep psychological impacts.

Furthermore, research from the Journal of Family Psychology has notably argued that children fare better when they spend time living with both parents, thereby encouraging shared parenting. This emphasizes the importance not only for the rights of fathers but for the well-being of our children.

We implore the judicial system to reassess and revise its practices to ensure a just procedure that values and respects the critical role that both parents play in a child's life. There is an urgent need to shift towards an objective, balanced, and fair system where fathers are granted equal rights in parenting time and custody.
