Macon, a city celebrated for its historic significance and beauty, is currently facing a dire plastic pollution crisis. With this petition created by Mercer Students for the Environment, we call upon Mayor Lester Miller and other elected officials of Macon, Georgia, to tackle this pressing problem by investing in efficient waste management strategies. 

Plastic pollution is not just an aesthetic issue; it poses real and irreversible damage to both our environment and health. Alarmingly, this is becoming a widespread driver of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation. It threatens human health, affects food and water safety, burdens economic activities, and contributes to climate change by emitting excessive greenhouse gasses.

We believe adopting comprehensive waste management systems can significantly decrease plastic pollution, preserving Macon's beauty and enhancing the health of its residents.
