Implement Education on the Effects of Pornography in School Curricula

Implement Education on the Effects of Pornography in School Curricula
The Issue
As a concerned citizen of the Philippines, I have personally witnessed how the consumption of pornographic videos can distort perceptions and contribute to harmful behaviors. This issue is deeply personal to me as I believe it contributes to an increase in rape cases in our country.
It's crucial that we educate our students about the potential effects of watching pornographic videos on their characteristics and future prospects. Studies suggest that exposure to pornography can lead to unrealistic expectations about sex, relationships, and body image (American Psychological Association). Moreover, there is evidence linking excessive pornography consumption with increased aggression (Journal of Communication).
In 2019 alone, there were over 8,000 reported rape cases in the Philippines (Philippine National Police), a number that has been steadily increasing over recent years. While many factors contribute to this problem, educating young people about responsible media consumption could be part of a comprehensive solution.
We need our education system to step up and include lessons on these issues in their curricula. By doing so, we can equip our students with knowledge that will help them make informed decisions regarding their media consumption habits.
This isn't just about preventing crime; it's also about fostering healthy attitudes towards sex and relationships among our youth. Let us take action now for a safer society tomorrow.
Please sign this petition urging educational authorities to implement education on the effects of pornography into school curricula across the Philippines.
