Implement Comprehensive Homeless Support and Housing in San Francisco
Implement Comprehensive Homeless Support and Housing in San Francisco
The Issue
As Bay Area residents, we have witnessed the growing homeless crisis in our beloved city of San Francisco. Our fear of visiting the city is not born out of disdain for those less fortunate, but rather a deep concern for their well-being and the overall health of our community.
We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home. Yet, as per the 2019 San Francisco Homeless Count & Survey, there are over 8,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night in our city (source: SF Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing). This is not just an issue; it's a crisis.
We urge our local government to take decisive action similar to what former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani did during his tenure. His approach involved moving homeless individuals into shelters and low-level housing units which significantly reduced homelessness rates (source: NYC Department of Social Services).
San Francisco is known for its innovation and compassion; let's apply these qualities towards addressing this pressing issue. We need comprehensive strategies that include expanding shelter capacities, creating more low-income housing options, providing mental health support services, job training programs among others.
It's time we turn fear into action. It's time we ensure every resident can enjoy San Francisco without fearing where they will sleep at night or if they will have enough food for their next meal.
Sign this petition today to urge the City Council to implement comprehensive homeless support measures including increased shelter capacities and affordable housing options in San Francisco.
