Implement Compassionate and Empathetic Staff at the New Orleans Family Justice Center
The Issue
I am a survivor of domestic violence, and I have personally experienced the lack of empathy and compassion at the New Orleans Family Justice Center. The employees, predominantly black women, often appear nonchalant and standoffish. They seem to lack genuine support for survivors like me who are in dire need of aid.
The most disheartening aspect is their withholding of Gas Cards and rental assistance from clients who desperately require it. This rental assistance is federally funded; however, the attitudes displayed by these employees suggest as if they are dispensing funds from their personal accounts.
According to statistics from The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), 1 in 4 women will experience severe intimate partner physical violence in her lifetime. This alarming statistic underscores the importance of having compassionate staff members who can empathize with survivors' situations.
We need employees who genuinely care about their job roles at this center - individuals who understand that they are not just providing a service but offering a lifeline to those trying to escape abusive environments.
Let's urge the management of New Orleans Family Justice Center to review their hiring practices and ensure that only those with true empathy for domestic violence survivors occupy these critical positions. Please sign this petition today so we can create an environment where survivors feel supported rather than dismissed.
