Implement British Sign Language Teaching in Schools

The Issue

Currently, British Sign Language (BSL) is not a compulsory subject in our schools. Yet, BSL is a vital form of communication for approximately 151,000 individuals across the UK who use it as their main language. Offering BSL as a learning option in schools can promote an inclusive society, maintaining a level playing field for children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Making BSL instruction mandatory for every child will bridge the communication gap and allow for a more inclusive, diverse, and empathetic society. This can also promote the overall growth of the language, fostering understanding and helping us move towards a more inclusive society. We request that the Department of Education consider this much-needed change. Lend your voice to the cause, sign this petition and make BSL part of our school's curriculum!
