The Issue

Over the years, efforts to establish a 14-inch spread limit at Beech Fork Wildlife Management Area (WMA) have failed miserably. As an avid hunter, I've witnessed the repercussions firsthand: young bucks not reaching their full potential, and a once-thriving deer population now struggling.

I'm calling for a change to address this issue by designating Beech Fork WMA as a bow-only hunting area. This change would provide bucks with the opportunity to mature fully, benefiting not only the local ecosystem but also maintaining a sustainable population similar to those we see in the southern counties. These regions have successfully implemented bow-only restrictions, resulting in healthier herds and enhanced hunting experiences.

Beech Fork WMA is a treasure for hunters providing outdoor recreation and wildlife observation opportunities. However, the current regulations are not optimizing the area's potential. Incorporating a bow-only policy will help ensure the long-term health of the deer population, allow bucks to grow to their full potential, and lead to a richer experience for hunters and nature enthusiasts alike.

In addition to preserving wildlife, a bow-only policy could attract more archery enthusiasts to the area, potentially boosting local economies through increased tourism and associated spending. Numerous studies have shown that regions with healthier deer populations see improvements in both hunter satisfaction and economic benefits.

This proposed change is realistic and achievable. It merely requires the administrative will and support from the hunting community to implement a bow-only regulation at Beech Fork WMA.

I urge the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources to consider this proposal seriously. By making Beech Fork WMA a bow-only hunting area, we can bring about positive changes that will benefit both the ecosystem and the community.

Please sign this petition if you believe in promoting sustainable hunting practices and improving the health and vitality of our natural resources at Beech Fork WMA.
