Implement Better Protocols for Handling Inappropriate Customer Behavior
The Issue
As a young female worker, it's very common to be given weird comments and get into uncomfortable situations with male customers. This is not just my experience; many women all over the world have faced similar issues. Despite reporting these incidents, there often seems to be a lack of effective protocols in place to address them.
According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), nearly one-third of the 90,000 charges received in 2015 included an allegation of workplace harassment. This statistic underscores the need for better measures to protect employees from harassment and ensure a safe working environment.
We need clear guidelines and training for all staff on how to handle situations where customers make female employees uncomfortable. This includes immediate support from management and appropriate actions taken against offending customers.
