Implement an Introduction to Judaics Class at Rowan University

The Issue

Many of us at Rowan University, Jewish students and others alike, have expressed a desire to study Judaics in a formal, university setting. We seek to add a class dedicated to Judaic studies, precisely focusing on the comprehensive and immersive tradition of Yeshiva learning.

Amplifying knowledge about Judaic studies is crucial, given that Rowan University is a dedicated proponent of diversity and inclusion. Introducing a course studying Judaism's religious beliefs, philosophy, culture, and history will enable students to obtain a deeper understanding not just of the religion, but of its significant contributions to society and civilization.

Moreover, Rowan University boasts an ample number of courses under the Religious Studies discipline. However, there seems to be a lack of specificity when it comes to Judaic studies, despite about 10 percent of Rowan University students identifying as Jewish (source: "Religious Diversity at Rowan University''). Adding a course dedicated to Judaics would aptly serve this significant university minority, and encourage an enriched, vibrant, and diversified academic environment.

We, the students at Rowan University, request the administration to consider our appeal to introduce an introduction to Judaics class. Your support and signature can make a substantial difference to our learning experience and further the values of diversity and inclusion that Rowan University rightfully pledges. Please sign this petition to stand with us.
