Implement Age-Restricted Permits for Tree Cutting in Massachusetts

Implement Age-Restricted Permits for Tree Cutting in Massachusetts
The Issue
I am a resident of Fall River, Massachusetts, and I've witnessed the gradual loss of our natural beauty due to deforestation. Our trees are being cut down without any restrictions or considerations for their importance to our environment and landscape. This is why I am calling on the state government to implement a permit system for tree cutting, with an age restriction of 20 years. (there will be no cost to get a permit, but there will be a test you have to take)
Trees play a crucial role in maintaining the health of our planet by absorbing carbon dioxide and other harmful gases while releasing oxygen. According to American Forests, a single mature tree can absorb up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year (American Forests). However, we are losing these vital resources at an alarming rate.
In Massachusetts alone, we lost over 18,000 acres of forest land between 2012 and 2017 (USDA Forest Service). This not only affects our local ecosystems but also contributes significantly to climate change.
By implementing an age-restricted permit system for tree cutting in Massachusetts, we can ensure that those who are responsible enough will be allowed this privilege. It would also encourage young people to understand the importance of preserving nature from an early age.
Let's preserve the natural beauty around Fall River and all across Massachusetts. Please sign this petition urging our state government officials to implement this much-needed policy change now!
