Implement Age Limits for Presidential Candidates

Implement Age Limits for Presidential Candidates
The Issue
The personal journey that led me to launch this petition stems from my honest concern for the well-being of our country. Considerable debate is underway regarding the necessity for age limits to be established for presidential candidates. Healthy cognitive functioning and physical endurance are vital for governing a nation. While we highly regard the wisdom and experience older candidates can bring to the table, it is essential to ensure their competency for such a demanding role both physically and mentally.
The average age of all 45 U.S. presidents at the time of inauguration, across our nation's history, is 55 years. In recent years, this average age has significantly increased, with President Joe Biden inaugurating at 78 years old, setting him as the oldest president in U.S. history upon taking office. A substantial shift in trend can be observed here.
Introduction of age limit is not a novel consideration. Our constitution already sets a minimum age limit (35 years) for a presidential candidate, indicating the recognition of age as an important criterion. Having a maximum age limit, such as age 65, would mirror this understanding, ensuring that our leaders are at their optimal capacity when leading our nation.
Six out of ten Americans support age limits for presidential and congressional candidates, according to a 2019 Hill-HarrisX poll. The voice of the people merits attention.
As a concerned citizen, I believe that we need a policy change to ensure our country is led by those at their full capacities. I respectfully urge lawmakers to consider this appeal objectively, evaluating the pros and cons with the country's best interest in mind. Please sign this petition, let's prioritize the well-being of our nation.
