As a Permanent Resident of Canada, I am deeply concerned about the escalating homelessness crisis in our country. The skyrocketing cost of living has rendered many unable to afford rent, pushing them towards homelessness. This issue is personal for me and many others who are struggling to meet the exorbitant demands of landlords asking for 4500+ monthly income, liability insurance of up to 1 million dollars and good credit. Most people only take home $2000 per month after taxes - how then are we supposed to afford to live?

The situation is dire and requires immediate attention from our government. We need affordable long-term housing solutions that can accommodate those affected by this crisis. According to Statistics Canada (2016), over 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness annually, a number that has likely increased due to the ongoing pandemic and economic downturn.

We urge the government not only acknowledge this issue but also take swift action towards implementing policies that will provide affordable housing options for all Canadians regardless of their income level or financial situation.
