Implement a Yielding Left Turn Arrow at Division and Pine Bluff Intersection

The Issue

As a resident of Morris, IL, I find myself frequently frustrated by the traffic light at the intersection of Division (Rt. 47) and Pine Bluff Road. Instead of having a camera to enforce and monitor illegal left turns, wouldn't it be more efficient to have a yielding yellow left turn arrow? This would not only improve the flow of traffic but also reduce unnecessary waiting time for drivers.

Currently, while sitting at the light prior to turning onto Pine Bluff, the light changes to green for those who would be turning onto Division or those continuing straight ahead - even if there aren't any cars there. This system is hindering for those who may have an opportunity to reach their destination on time.

According to data from The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), implementing yield-on-green signals can reduce delay by as much as 28% compared with protected-only phasing. Furthermore, studies show that intersections with yield-on-green signals experience fewer severe crashes than intersections with protected-only phasing.

By implementing this change in our community's traffic system, we could significantly improve efficiency and safety for all road users in Morris. It's time we take action towards making our roads safer and more efficient for everyone. Please sign this petition urging local authorities to implement a yielding left turn arrow at the intersection of Division (Rt. 47) and Pine Bluff Road.
