Implement a week of mental health recovery at Westside High School
The Issue
This is not a joke. This is not a ploy to have less school. Do not take this lightly.
On 9/26/25, Westside High School experienced a traumatic shooting incident that significantly impacted the emotional well-being of students, teachers, and staff members. The community was rattled by this unexpected tragedy, leaving everyone in a state of distress and heightened anxiety. In light of these events, it is imperative that the school takes immediate action to address the mental health needs of everyone involved.
Students deserve a safe and supportive environment to process their emotions and begin healing. Many are struggling with fear and confusion, and without proper support, this could have long-term adverse effects on their mental health. Teachers and staff, too, are in need of time and resources to recover from the shock and to assist students effectively.
We are calling for Westside High School and the school district to implement a week dedicated to mental health recovery. This period would allow the school to provide counseling sessions, group therapy, and workshops focusing on coping mechanisms and emotional resilience. Professional mental health practitioners should be brought in to assist, ensuring that all students and faculty receive the necessary care and attention.
Other schools that have faced similar tragedies have found success in implementing mental health recovery periods, leading to substantial improvements in the community's overall well-being and resilience. By taking this step, Westside High School would demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding the mental health of its community.
Please sign this petition to urge Westside High School and the school district to prioritize mental health support and to help the students and staff recover from this traumatic event. Together, we can foster a nurturing environment that promotes healing and resilience.
