Implement a Voucher Scheme for Government Expenses
Implement a Voucher Scheme for Government Expenses
The Issue
I am a person living with disability, and my monthly expenditure on medication, travel needs, and care change. Yet, the government's liabilities for MP's travel, accommodation, food allowances continue to be funded without any restrictions or limitations. This situation is deeply personal to me as it highlights an imbalance in our society where those in need are subjected to stringent measures while those in power enjoy unrestricted privileges.
The government is planning to introduce vouchers for disabled people - a move that will further limit our ability to manage our expenses based on individual needs and circumstances. Meanwhile, the same principle of controlled spending does not apply when it comes to funding the expenses of MPs.
In 2019-20 alone, UK MPs claimed £157m in expenses on top of their salaries (source: Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority). Imagine if this vast sum was regulated through a central voucher scheme similar to what they propose for us?
This petition seeks fairness and equality. It demands that if disabled people are expected to manage their variable costs via vouchers then the same should apply for government officials' expenditures too.
Let us strive towards creating an equitable society where everyone is subject to the same rules regardless of their status or position. Sign this petition today; let’s make sure our voices are heard!
