Implement a Three-Day Weekend for Schools in Indiana

The Issue

On a personal level, the current five-day school week has proven to be excessively demanding, resulting in mental and physical exhaustion among myself and many of my peers. The exhaustion and burnout we experience are all too common symptoms of a relentless educational system.

Education is designed to empower us. Yet, for many of us in Indiana schools, the chronic stress and burnout we're facing are raising serious questions about the effectiveness of the current structure.

The American Psychological Association (APA) recently found in a study that nearly 45% of students feel overburdened by their academic workload, which goes to show the sheer magnitude of this issue. This is no isolated matter. This is a pervasive issue that affects almost half of our student population.

Asking for a three-day weekend may seem unconventional, but it is a step towards prioritizing the wellbeing of students over rigid structures. By reducing the school week by one day, we provide students with the necessary downtime their bodies and minds desperately need to recuperate and invigorate. Such a move will not only enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of students but could also improve their enthusiasm for learning, making education a more enriching experience.

This is about the future of our state, the wellbeing of our students and the effectiveness of our education system. It's high time Indiana took a bold step towards transformative change in our schools.

Please, join us in urging the Indiana Board of Education to consider implementing a three-day weekend in schools across the state. Let's make education empowering, not exhausting. Sign this petition today!
