The Issue
I have personally experienced the mental and physical drain that relentless work and academic schedules can cause. A lack of breaks in our yearly structure leaves many of us tired, stressed, and unmotivated, deeply impacting our personal wellbeing and productivity.
A solution that has proven effective in combating student and employee burnout is the implementation of a Spring Break, a week-long pause in work and academic schedules. According to the American Psychological Association, taking breaks such as a Spring Break can significantly reduce stress, enhance productivity, and boost mental health (APA, 2019). But we would have to add one more week to the school year, so we would have the first week of summer a school week.
Considering the current mental health crisis in our country, it has become imperative to take proactive steps for our mental welfare. A Spring Break presents an opportunity for rejuvenating and refreshing ourselves to continue the remainder of the year with improved focus, health, and morale.
It is not merely a call to action for a week off; it's a commitment to advocate for a healthier, more productive environment for us all.
