My son was hit by a car at the junction of St Paul’s Avenue and Halifax Road. This terrible incident could have been prevented if there had been a safe place for him to cross this extremely busy road. Luckily, he was not seriously injured but every day, countless pedestrians, including children like my son, risk their lives crossing this intersection due to the lack of proper safety measures.

Bradford is known for its bustling streets and heavy traffic. According to data from Bradford Council's road safety team (2019), there were 1,025 reported casualties on our roads in just one year - an alarming number that underscores the urgent need for improved pedestrian safety measures.

We are calling on local authorities to implement a traffic-light controlled crossing at this particular junction. This simple yet effective measure will not only enhance pedestrian safety but also regulate vehicular movement, reducing the risk of accidents.

The time has come for us to prioritise our community's safety over convenience. We must ensure that no other parent experiences what I have gone through because of inadequate road infrastructure.
