The Issue

As a resident of Tweed, ON. I watch my oldest son, now at the age where he’s legally allowed, to walk his brothers to and from school without adult supervision.

Our street is not just a cluster of homes, but an artery of our little town, bustling with growing children. It connects us to greens of the park, the expanse of the boat launch, the energy of the baseball diamond, and most importantly.. is a direct, uncomplicated route to school, eliminating the need to venture into downtown. However, this blessing is a curse in disguise as the absence of a crosswalk threatens their safety.

As per Transport Canada, pedestrian fatalities amount to approximately 15% of roadway fatalities in Canada, with the majority of these fatalities happening at non-intersection locations (Transport Canada, 2020). Having a crosswalk in our town at the specific junction of our street and the main road will not only ensure the safety of our children but also give peace of mind to us parents.

Let's proactively avert a potential tragedy rather than reactively installing safety measures after it's too late. Let us ensure we do everything we can to keep our children safe. This petition requests your immediate attention and action towards implementing a new pedestrian crosswalk in our town. Please, for the sake of our children, sign this petition.
