Many children and parents in our community need to cross Valley road as a path to local schools. The presence of two industrial estates has increased the busyness of this road, and along with that, the danger. Disturbingly, this road is often the scene of frequent speeding, including large haulage trucks that pose a heightened risk to pedestrians. 

In the UK, speed is a contributory factor in 28% of fatal road collisions, according to governmental traffic accident data. By allowing this speeding to continue on our local street, we are placing our community members, our children, at risk every single day.

Therefore, we are calling for a safe pedestrian crossing to be implemented on Valley Road. This would serve as a much-needed safety measure, ensuring that all pedestrians, particularly children and their parents heading to and from school, can cross the road safely, even amidst the heavy, fast-moving traffic. 

Our children’s safety should not be compromised. It is the responsibility of our local authorities to ensure all roads, especially those around schools, are safe for all. Safe crossings are a proven way to reduce accidents and save lives.
