The Stracathro community, where we parents and staff reside, is a close-knit region. However, mounting concerns about road safety issues near Stracathro Nursery & Primary School have led us to this moment.

Of these concerns, the excessive vehicle speeds are alarming. Too often, drivers recklessly exceed safe speed limitations near the school. This irresponsible behavior significantly increases the risk of accidents, posing a threat to our innocent, young children who just need to attend school safely (source: Road Safety Facts, UK Department for Transport).

Equally concerning are the frequent visibility issues arising from unsafe parking. Vehicles parked in restricted areas obstruct sightlines, making it difficult for children and drivers to maintain visual contact. This elevates the potential for unseen, and thus unavoidable, accidents.

The current road layout is anything but child-friendly. The sharp bend near the school botches driver visibility and reaction time, leading to situations that puts the life of our children at risk. Moreover, the regular influx of large vehicles and lorries through the area adds on to the danger our little ones face daily.

Collectively, we must strive to ensure the safety of our children and all road users. Thus, we ask for your support to implement a permanent 20 mph speed limit around Stracathro Nursery & Primary School. This change will significantly improve the current road safety condition and promote a safer environment for our kids.
