Implement a penalty for politicians who deflect questions

Implement a penalty for politicians who deflect questions
The Issue
I am constantly frustrated by politicians who are asked direct and challenging questions, only to witness them skillfully dodge the inquiry by deflecting to unrelated matters. This is not an isolated incident but a pervasive issue impacting the integrity of political discourse in parliament and during media engagements.
In workplaces across the UK, evading questions isn't tolerated. Employees are expected to respond to inquiries directly and factually, failing which there are often consequences, such as performance reviews or even dismissal for persistent avoidance. Politicians, the public servants in whom we place our trust, should be held to the same standard of accountability.
Deflection not only undermines the credibility of politicians but also robs the public of the transparent dialogue we deserve. For this reason, I am calling for the implementation of a monetary penalty system for politicians who choose to deflect rather than answer direct questions.
A fiscal deterrent would motivate politicians to engage truthfully with pressing queries, enhancing the quality and accountability of political communication. Other democracies have implemented similar measures, and it stands as a testament to the urgency for transparency.
Let's champion clear and honest communication by holding our politicians accountable. Doing so ensures that they address the real issues affecting all of us rather than continuing down a path of evasion and avoidance.
Sign this petition to demand a change in how political discourse is conducted. Let's make transparency and accountability a norm, not an exception.
