Implement a More Regular Bus Service to Holymoorside

The Issue

My mother, a resident of Holymoorside, has sight issues and relies heavily on public transport for her independence and daily activities. She, like many senior citizens in our community, is unable to drive and is dependent on our public transport system to keep her connected to the basic necessities and services.

The bus service between Holymoorside and Chesterfield was a lifeline for people like her. However, it is incredibly disappointing to see that this has now stopped, and the only buses frequenting the village now leave towards Bakewell in the morning and arrives from Bakewell in the mid afternoon during the week. There is no service at the weekend.

This lack of regular transport service represents a significant barrier to the independence and mobility of our senior residents and others who depend on public transportation for their daily commuting. To support a claim, UK Department for Transport statistics show that older and disabled residents make up over half of the bus passenger journeys (source: Department for Transport, UK, "Annual bus statistics", 2019).

Therefore, it is essential that we as a community push for a service that operates between Chesterfield and Holymoorside, one that operates more frequently during the weekdays and also provides the necessary service during weekends.

Please sign this petition to urge our local officials to recognize this issue and take necessary actions to reinstate a regular bus service between Chesterfield and Holymoorside. Your signature could profoundly improve the quality of life for so many of our friends, neighbors, and loved ones. Let's help ensure access to reliable public transportation for everyone in our community.
