In the first half of 2022, Colorado was number one for car theft in the United States. This is very alarming throughout! This problem has become very prominent. There is no telling who will become the next victim of car theft in Colorado. Often, a car is scraped for parts, found with damages to it, or in need of some professional cleaning. Now, to somebody who depends on their car to go to appointments and work, the effects of car theft can be devastating. 

Around February 2023, the Denver Police Department launched a new program to help prevent car theft. This program is called DenverTrack. The goals of this system are auto theft prevention, vehicle recovery, and car theft arrest. In the DenverTrack system program, a person gives consent to the police department to access tracking data after a stolen car report. This system can be accessed through car systems like Onstar or, even through some type of GPS, or Bluetooth system. This allows a person to work with the police for a faster-stolen car recovery or even as a type of deterrent since a participant obtains a sticker to warn off potential car thieves. Although, this system is in place for those who live in Denver or work there.

Therefore, implementing a system like DenverTrack in the Weld County area will help a lot more. We cannot combat car theft alone, we need to start the change somewhere. Let's not wait until we see our house driveways empty or the store parking lot without our cars to take action, let's do this now!
