Every day, I watch cars speed through the intersection of M-57 and Ely Hwy, too often resulting in collisions. This intersection, being near a school, poses a terrifying risk not only to the drivers, but also to our children. The speed at which vehicles pass by the school is alarming and can prove catastrophic.

Nationwide, approximately one-fifth of all traffic accidents occur at intersections, and the implementation of four-way stops have been known to decrease these accidents by nearly 40% (source: Federal Highway Administration). Our town deserves this safety measure. Implementing a four-way stop at the M-57 and Ely Hwy intersection would allow our children to walk to school without fear, and bring peace of mind to every driver passing through.
