Implement a Fall Flintlock-Only Hunting Season in Pennsylvania

Implement a Fall Flintlock-Only Hunting Season in Pennsylvania
The Issue
The main focus of our initiative is to extend the early muzzleloader season by a week (1 week prior or 1 week after). During these two weeks, we would like hunters to have the ability to harvest a buck or a doe with a flintlock. We are not looking to negotiate the late muzzleloader season.
We want to encourage hunting in a traditional manner that pays homage to Pennsylvania’s roots.
Once upon a time, our organization, The Pennsylvania Federation of Blackpowder Shooters, collaborated with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to ensure a traditional hunting season dedicated to flintlock hunters. However, recent modifications to the hunting season have raised apprehension within the blackpowder community. We believe in preserving traditional hunting methods and we argue that a Flintlock-only season in fall, where hunters could harvest both a buck and a doe, should be instated.
It’s essential to appreciate the transparency this method of hunting provides and how it intensifies the ethical element of hunting. This approach employs primitive equipment, which levels the playing field between the hunter and the hunted and emphasizes hunting skills. Currently, approximately less than 1% of all Pennsylvania hunters participate in the flintlock season. (source: Pennsylvania Game Commission). Moving this to fall could increase participation, thereby preserving the heritage and tradition of blackpowder hunting.
We beseech the Pennsylvania Game Commission to respect the wishes of our community and the traditions of hunting, and put into place a fall Flintlock-only season with allowances for harvesting both buck and doe. Please preserve our heritage and support this necessary change. Sign this petition to help restore balance and tradition to hunting in Pennsylvania.
