The Issue

I love fireworks as much as everyone else, however the impact in brings on animals and PTSD survivors has broken down my admiration for the tradition. Everyone can appreciate the beauty of fireworks. This petition is not to ban fireworks altogether, but to implement new silent fireworks. These silent fireworks will greatly positively impact ex-soldiers, animals and many other people whilst maintaining the tradition and beauty of fireworks.

I am the owner of a young cat and my partner has a 15-year-old dog both of whom are deeply affected by the sounds of traditional fireworks. Every time these lights spectacularly explode in the sky, our pets experience levels of fear that manifest as panic attacks, uncontrollable shaking, and even sweating. The distress visible in their eyes is heart-wrenching for us as pet owners. Many owners have lost their pets due to the direct and indirect effects of fireworks. There is no need.

Sadly, our pets are not alone in this. The RSPCA reports that 45% of dogs in the UK show signs of fear when they hear fireworks. That's a significant number of animals suffering from this entirely preventable cause of anxiety. Additionally, the loud and sudden noises not only disturb pets but also affect wildlife and people with sensory sensitivity.

Fireworks have a long-standing historic and cultural importance, being used in various celebrations worldwide. However, with the advancement of technology, an alternative that caters everyone’s needs is within reach. Silent fireworks can provide the same visual entertainment minus the unnecessary noise pollution.

It's time we modernize our celebrations and take all living creatures into consideration. By replacing traditional fireworks with silent ones, we can continue to illuminate our celebrations without causing distress to our beloved animals and sensitive individuals. Join me in advocating for a ban on traditional fireworks and the adoption of silent fireworks. Sign this petition today.
