The Issue

Life is more than just books and classrooms. Having more time with family and friends is something we all cherish. A four-day school week can give us the opportunity to enjoy more quality time outside school confines, build deeper bonds, and engage with the larger world.

For me, switching to a four-day school week means having the time to join after-school clubs that I'm passionate about, like football and swimming sessions. Sports, especially, are a huge part of my life, but the current school schedule often cuts them short. Having an extra day not limited by school offers more room for physical activity and exploration of interests that are as important as academic subjects.

Starting school early in the morning means many children miss a crucial part of their development – ample rest. Studies suggest that children and teenagers need more sleep for better health and cognitive development. A shorter school week could adjust the start times, allowing students to rest more adequately and arrive at school ready to learn.

Importantly, a four-day school week has been adopted successfully in several school districts across the United States, proving its feasibility. In New Mexico, a district reported improved student performance and attendance after implementing a shortened week.

Children aren't meant to spend all day indoors. They deserve the chance to explore the world, learn from experiences outside the classroom, and grow into well-rounded individuals. Let's make it happen by pushing for a four-day school week. Sign this petition to bring this change to our community, ensuring children have the time and opportunities to flourish academically and socially.
