PETITION CALLING FOR THE INVESTIGATION AND CONSIDERATION OF IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS AGAINST PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU OVER WORSENING NATIONAL INSECURITY AND GOVERNANCE FAILURES

To:

The President of the Senate, National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
The Speaker, House of Representatives
Members of the National Assembly
And Relevant Constitutional Authorities

Date: May 28, 2026

Subject: Petition for Constitutional Accountability Regarding Escalating Insecurity, Kidnappings, Killings, and Governance Concerns in Nigeria

We, the undersigned citizens and concerned stakeholders of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, respectfully submit this petition to express our deep concern over the worsening state of insecurity, economic hardship, and governance challenges currently facing the nation under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Across several regions of Nigeria, citizens continue to experience:

Increasing incidents of kidnappings for ransom;
Violent attacks and loss of innocent lives;
Displacement of communities;
Growing fear and insecurity in both rural and urban areas;
Economic hardship that has further exposed vulnerable Nigerians to instability and crime.
As citizens, we acknowledge that insecurity in Nigeria predates the current administration. However, we also believe that the Constitution places a solemn responsibility on the President and Commander-in-Chief to protect lives and property and ensure the welfare and security of the people.

Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states:
“The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.”

Many Nigerians believe the current administration has not demonstrated sufficient urgency, transparency, or effectiveness in addressing the scale of insecurity and hardship affecting the nation. Public confidence in governance institutions continues to decline as communities mourn lives lost and families remain traumatized by kidnappings and violence.

Accordingly, we respectfully call on the National Assembly to:

Conduct an independent and transparent investigation into the Federal Government’s handling of national security matters under the current administration;
Hold public hearings on the rising incidents of kidnappings, killings, and insecurity across the country;
Demand measurable accountability from relevant security agencies and executive officials;
Consider whether the continued failures in protecting Nigerian citizens constitute grounds for constitutional sanctions or impeachment proceedings as provided under Nigerian law;
Prioritize urgent bipartisan reforms aimed at restoring public trust, improving security coordination, and protecting the lives and dignity of Nigerians.
This petition is not driven by political hatred, ethnic bias, or personal animosity. It is a democratic call for accountability, constitutional responsibility, and responsive leadership in the face of national suffering.

Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians. The lives of citizens must never become ordinary statistics.

We urge the National Assembly and all democratic institutions to act courageously, lawfully, and in the best interest of the Nigerian people.

Respectfully submitted,

Nigerian Citizens
