Officials in Illinois are supporting tariffs that disproportionately affect our residents' livelihoods. These tariffs, intended to protect and bolster local industries, are instead causing an increase in everyday goods prices and placing tremendous financial strain on consumers in our communities.

In fact, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research, consumers are the ones predominantly bearing the cost of these tariffs, not foreign exporters. This undermines the very idea of equitable trade practices and devastates our local economy.

Also, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs disclosed that Illinois is the 4th largest exporting state in the US, with exports supporting more than 345,000 jobs statewide. These tariffs hinder our potential and capabilities, therefore it is a matter that we cannot overlook.

This petition calls for the impeachment of those local officials who endorse these unfair tariffs.
