Foreign Professionals (FPC) taking action to be recognized
The Issue
OUR MISSION
Is to URGE the approval in all states of the BILL SB-1159, that in California allows any high-skilled worker to use a SSN or ITIN and cannot be rejected based in their immigrant status, or DEMAND AN ACTION from President Barack Obama.
The Immigrant Professionals community in the United States is “LIVING IN THE SHADOWS.” I am part of this community, whose members have suffered hardship, frustration, and many times depression for not practicing our careers that we are passionate about.
The majority of people wrongly think that we only need to have our transcripts evaluated. However, if we do not have a work permit, or have a sponsor, we are not able to work in the U.S. Even some careers require citizenship. It is demoralizing that people who surround us do not understand our struggles. Even having an immigration status, it is difficult and costly to change it in order to practice our careers.
As with most of the immigrants, we feel out of place and stranded because our own home countries have change while we are abroad. It is sad that after dedicating our youth to study, we have not received its benefits. Meeting our basic needs forces us to work in low-paying jobs we see: an architect/waitress, an economist/handyman, a lawyer/taxi driver, a dentist/nanny, and a pharmacist/ janitor. The list goes on.
As a result, we have limited quality of life not equitable to our education. We are living in neighborhoods that limit our interactions, we do not belong to groups with common interests, and we cannot afford suitable activities to grow professionally.
We are longing to contribute to the United States with:
1- Our unquestionable education in careers in-demand such as teachers, health professionals, and the STEM area, where we have a bigger percentage than native professionals.
2- Besides our education, we have skills acquired in the practice of our professions.
3- U.S. companies need multilingual professionals and this is one of the most important contributions we could bring.
Giving us the opportunity to practice our careers, the results will come up showing to this nation our capabilities. The results will emerge and shine. If we are not allow to work in our careers, it will be consequences because many professionals would move to California or another country. It will cause a bigger deficit in the U.S. and another country will benefit from the “brain drain” that the U.S. wasted away for years
WE ARE SPINNING THE WHEELS
and
WE ARE A DYNAMIC WORKFORCE WASTED AWAY!
