Stop financing Zimbabwean government's human rights abuses! #NotoZimbailout

The Issue

Today (August 17, 2016), I was saddened to see images of police beating up unarmed people in Harare who were exercising their constitutional right to protest as provided by section 67(2)(d) of the Constitution which guarantees the right to ‘challenge’ or ‘support’ the policies of the government or any particular party or any cause.  These human rights abuses by the government of Zimbabwe have to stop and the only way to do that is to hold them accountable for their actions and policies.

Unfortunately, organizations like the IMF and the World Bank are pushing an agenda to re-engage Zimbabwe with the international financial community while these gross human right violations are taking place in Zimbabwe.  The IMF says that there are no human right abuses in Zimbabwe right now and that Zimbabwe should be afforded the opportunity to clear its arrears and be in a position to get more loans from the international community!  We MUST stop this from happening – any re-engagement with the International financial community will further finance the corrupt, unjust and brutal Zanu PF government of Zimbabwe.

The boards of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the African Development Bank are due to meet in September to discuss plans for fresh loans to Zimbabwe.  There is a group of Europeans that is pushing for this re-engagement to happen.

Join me in petitioning the IMF to reconsider its stance on re-engagement with Zimbabwe at this time while the government continues to intimidate, harass and beat up its citizens for exercising their constitutional right to protest and speak out against their mismanagement of the economy.  Join us as we take a stand to say NO to propping up the government of Zimbabwe until they deal with the issues of poverty, injustice and corruption. Join us in saying NO TO ARREARS CLEARANCE by the IMF and World Bank and NO TO ZIM RE-ENGAGEMENT with the international financial community. Our government needs to be held accountable for their wanton disregard of the rights of citizens!

We would like to get as many signatures as we can to present to the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund before their upcoming board meeting in September!
