Prevent bots from giving hoax votes to The Oogieloves

Prevent bots from giving hoax votes to The Oogieloves
The Issue
The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure is recongised as not only one of the worst films but one of the biggest box ofice flops of all time. Upon release, it was met with disrespect from critics and harsh reaction from audiences, and a small percentage of its target audience wanted to see it. Its IMDb average user rating was up to just 2.0/10, nearing a place on the Bottom 100.
However, in the middle of June 2013, a swarm of enthusiatic reviews came in, written by people who had never contributed to the IMDb before and have never been active since. They wrote reviews ranging from 8-10 stars out of 10, giving it reviews that seem to have been written in a similar manner to one another. Throughout the rest of the year, more and more votes have come in (there were only 748 votes beforehand), giving it a perfect 10/10 rating not only on IMDb but Metacritic and Flixster.
The total amount of user votes as of January 28th is 12,941, with a score of 8.0/10, competing with the Top 250. On Metacritic, the current score is 8.0/10 from 78 positive reviews all posted from August 19th-23rd including four posted on September 3rd. The current score on Flixster is 70% with 4,815 ratings.
IMDb users have been baffled by this. They can tell that bots were created to make the film look better than it is known to be. Bots give Oscar competitors like Captain Phillips hundreds of weak ratings when they are first screened and action blockbusters like The Hobbit thousands of perfect ratings. The bots responsible for making The Oogieloves look good are speculated to have been hired by a crew member who worked on the film. If you sign this petition, maybe the IMDb will consider a new kind of security from any future bot action. Click here to learn more.
