Challenge:

Christopher Nolan is highly regarded as one of the best Film Directors of our history. A distinctive feature of Nolan's films is that they are mostly shot in IMAX and 65 mm large film format, which heightens the sense of immersion and improves the whole cinematic experience and that is the sole reason he is the biggest advocate of IMAX. Christopher Nolan's films have always explored the concept of time in a unique way and often contain science fiction elements. He worked with numerous scientists to ensure the scientific accuracy of his film "Interstellar" in regards to physics.

As such, it would be beneficial for children to watch these movies, particularly in a setting such as Science City, which is geared towards the education and advancement of future generations. We already have an IMAX theatre established inside Science City for years and yet the people of Gujarat have to go outside of the state to enjoy cinema of such calibre. Why can't the citizens of Gujarat use the technology that is already available in their vicinity?

As citizens of Gujarat, we lack access to any commercial IMAX cinemas and feel that we need to be able to watch these films in the original, high-definition format and in the most authentic way it is meant to be watched. The undersigned are writing this requesting the science city council to take into consideration screening commercial IMAX films at Gujarat Science City IMAX Theatre. 

While we understand that screening commercial IMAX films may require additional funding and resources, we believe it would be a valuable addition to Science City. As a center of innovation, Science City is frequently visited by foreign delegates and influential individuals. So, adding IMAX films to the offerings would enhance the reputation of the Ahmedabad city and provide an even more memorable experience for visitors.

Opportunity:

The occasion would be perfect in April-2023 when it reopens with state-of-the-art 3D Laser Grand Theatre Technology. It is going to be the first theatre in India to have such technology and we request you to add another feather to Gujarat’s Prestige as a role model to the entire India.

Alternative :

If hosting commercial IMAX films on a regular basis is not possible, we would be open to the concept of doing Special one-time events or a limited number of showings on the weekends like what Carnival IMAX, Mumbai did with Dunkirk in 2018.

We would like to request that Christopher Nolan's upcoming film Oppenheimer, which is set to be released on 21/07/2023 and was shot with IMAX cameras, be shown in a special event. 

Before the release of Oppenheimer, it would be great if the Science City Council could screen all his previous offerings shot with IMAX cameras in a one-off event. Christopher Nolan has directed a number of other films that were either fully or partially shot with IMAX cameras, which we have listed below.

• The Dark Knight Rises
• Interstellar
• Dunkirk
• Tenet

We feel that making these movies accessible to our community would be a fantastic service, and it would also considerably improve the tourist experience at our science city. 

We sincerely hope that you would take into account our request and take the necessary actions to offer commercial IMAX films at your venue.
