The issue

Back the Blue — Not the Bike.

Illegal and unregistered dirt bikes and scooters are terrorising communities across NSW. Riders are tearing through footpaths, parks, playgrounds and streets at dangerous speeds, putting families, children and innocent road users at risk every single day.

These offenders openly ignore police directions, engage in reckless and anti‑social behaviour, and flee when police attempt to intervene. They are turning our suburbs into unsafe zones where the law is treated with contempt.

Offenders are now taunting police, provoking pursuits, and then blaming officers when their own dangerous choices lead to injury. This is not “kids having fun”. This is the result of a system that enables offenders while failing to protect the very officers who protect us.

Our police are being placed in impossible situations — expected to stop dangerous behaviour while operating under strict legal constraints, then judged after the fact for split‑second decisions made in high‑risk environments. Our police are here to protect and serve — not be turned into spectators while criminals take control.  Our police are now spectators!

A recent case, Police vs Benedict BRYANT, shows exactly how broken the system has become. The young person committed serious crimes. Sergeant Bryant acted as any law‑abiding citizen would expect of police — yet he is the one now sentenced and treated as the criminal.

Our system is failing us.

Our system is weak.

Our systems is powerless.

Police do not create pursuits — offenders do. Every chase begins with a deliberate choice to flee, escalate risk and endanger lives.

You don’t truly understand the fear until it’s your family. Until you’re jolted awake at 2am to footsteps in your hallway. Until an offender is standing over your child’s bed. Until someone is inside your home — armed, unpredictable, and unafraid.

For many families, this isn’t a story. It’s happening now.

These offenders use unregistered bikes and motor vehicles because they know police won't pursue them. Criminals know they outrank police under this system — and they abuse it every day.

This isn’t a “what if”. This is our reality — and it’s only going to get worse.

We demand new legislation NOW.

We propose urgent law reform that includes:

Offender accountability: If an offender flees police and causes their own injury or death, responsibility lies with them. No innocent person runs from police.

Juvenile consequences: If a juvenile is caught riding an unregistered motor vehicle, demerit points should be applied to their next of kin or responsible adult, and the juvenile’s eligibility for a NSW licence should be delayed based on the seriousness and frequency of traffic offences.

Law‑abiding citizens are paying the price. Communities are paying the price. Fear in public spaces is rising. Police resources are stretched. Confidence in the justice system is collapsing.

Seizing: Any unregistered motor vehicle/ E-bike seized by police will be forfeited to the crown for destruction and if established to be stolen, harsher penalties to be applied at court.

If nothing changes, this becomes a gateway for people to avoid paying registration, insurance and road taxes — The government is failing to give police the support, they need to control this escalating problem.

It is time for urgent action — not more discussion.
