If There’s a Moral Imperative to Cut — Start With MPs, Not the Vulnerable
The Issue
Why are pensioners, disabled people, low-income families and workers being told to accept less – while MPs enjoy subsidised food, luxury expenses, and gold-plated pensions?
The UK Government has called it a “moral imperative” to cut support for the sick, the disabled, and vulnerable families. But what’s truly immoral is expecting those who are already struggling to carry the burden, while those in power continue to enjoy generous, taxpayer-funded perks.
How can we justify slashing vital benefits while MPs still claim for second homes, enjoy subsidised meals and drinks, and receive gold-plated pensions — all paid for by the very people now being told to tighten their belts?
We are constantly told “there’s no money left” — yet there’s always room in the budget to support those at the top.
This is not just a policy issue — it’s a question of moral leadership and national fairness. If sacrifice is truly necessary, it must begin with those who lead.
This petition demands a reversal of priorities: before a single penny is cut from the people, let cuts begin with the politicians.
Every year, MPs receive:
£9+ million in taxpayer-funded food and drink subsidies
Expenses for second homes, utility bills, and furnishings
Generous pensions most workers can only dream of
Free travel and first-class tickets
“Golden goodbyes” when they leave office
Pay rises, even during a cost-of-living crisis
Meanwhile:
Disabled people face more benefit restrictions
Pensioners are choosing between heating and eating
NHS staff and teachers are overworked and underpaid
Workers are being taxed more while receiving less
Taxpayers are funding luxuries they’ll never benefit from
This isn’t shared sacrifice. This is inequality — built into the system.
We Demand:
- End all subsidies for MPs’ food, drink, and private bars
- Cap and review all second-home and travel expenses
- Freeze MP pay until public services are properly funded
- Align MPs’ pensions with the public sector average
- Prioritise taxing wealth and closing loopholes before cutting any public benefit
If cuts must be made, let them start at the top.
Sign this petition if you believe fairness should begin in Parliament — not in the pockets of those who can least afford it.
