This issue is deeply personal to me, as I am a firm believer in the power and necessity of individual votes. The proposed Idaho House Bill 85 could threaten our democracy by giving the governor the ability to veto an initiative petition within 5 days, essentially overriding the will of the voters. This places an uncomfortable amount of power into a single person’s hands, increasing the chance of political games and encouraging politicians to withhold critical information from voters - a practice which goes against the essence of informed decision-making in a democratic society. Respectfully, we request our representative to set an example and vote "No" on House Bill 85. This will uphold the principles of our democratic society that value each individual's voice.
