Idaho Women's Wrestling at BSU must be included in the Idaho 2027 Budget
The Issue
Idaho Women's Wrestling is the fastest-growing sport in the State, and other States are listening to their women and providing them with opportunities to keep the talent in their States.
Come on, Idaho!
Wrestling is a tool to develop our aspiring young men & women and keep them here, driven, tactful, and ready to carry entire companies in Idaho with their leadership. It's a small investment with a huge return.
We, the Idahoans signing below, ask the Idaho House of Representatives and the Joint Finance Appropriations Committee (JFAC) to put $2 million in the 2027 state budget to bring back Boise State University’s men’s wrestling program, which was cut in 2017, and a chance to make history by starting Idaho’s first-ever women’s wrestling program, with $1 million for each program.
Wrestling builds tough, driven Idahoans who shouldn’t have to leave the state of Idaho to chase their dreams. Our student athletes have no options to wrestle at the University level in Idaho, forcing them out of state!
Launching a BSU women’s team makes history, keeping our female student athletes in Idaho to compete in the state's fastest-growing sport, an opportunity for the Idaho Legislature and JFAC to understand today's needs of Idaho women and provide them the opportunities Idaho women are requiring.
These programs will keep 60 student-athletes, 30 men and 30 women, graduating in Idaho, ready for jobs at places like Micron and the fast paced companies constantly entering Idaho, not taking their talent to out-of-state schools and out-of-state companies, providing the academic excellence and leadership Idaho is currently shipping in from foreign countries. These companies want Idaho talent that is developed.
At just 0.06% of the $3.2 billion higher education budget, $1 million per team is a great investment that will return 10x by giving Idaho students opportunities at home. Most Idahoans don't want to leave Idaho, so these athletes are now forced to leave Idaho.
We’re counting on JFAC, led by Rep. Wendy Horman and Sen. Scott Grow, to write a budget that funds BSU men’s and women’s wrestling.
