The Issue

Ever since this pandemic started, students have felt more and more stressed. We have had to resort to new options: online learning. Thousands of learning resources are out there and help us students grow, but IXL is not one of them.

IXL is a time-consuming app that is extremely frustrating. Students at I.S 230 can agree that IXL is aggravating and demanding. Some of the issues in this app that we can all agree on: IXL is rigged, irritating, and is not a good learning option.

The main problem with IXL is the fact that students feel as if we aren’t learning anything. Unlike Khan Academy, IXL is not engaging. Khan Academy explains the lessons beforehand, so we know what we are getting into. On top of that, there are more lessons in Khan Academy that teach you the topic even better. IXL, on the other hand, has repetitive lessons that don’t help us learn any better. Students have reported spending hours on only one lesson. That’s right. Hours on only one lesson? Now imagine having 2 lessons. That leaves students not enough time to relax, but instead having to spend time on the other school work that teachers give us.

I.S 230 students feel overwhelmed because of IXL. We want you to take this petition into account to help us, and future students of our school to have better understanding of what we are learning, without IXL.
