Still no word on the details of the proposal that is being advanced to the Representative Council at the Michigan High School Athletic Association for a vote in March. We continue to lobby for a competitive rather than participatory model; these athletes need to be TRULY part of their team, and not just there for exhibition. It is crucial that any adaptive category includes the ability to score points, advance to regionals and finals, and earn a varsity letter, just like any other athlete on the team. Many states have a competitive adaptive model already, including Minnesota, which adopted theirs in 2011. Rose Hollermann spearheaded the change at the Minnesota State High School League through a lawsuit that ended in an out of court settlement. Minnesota has had a competitive model nearly identical to Maria's proposal ever since. That's 11 years worth of experience from a neighboring state that we can learn from here in Michigan, if only we ask. We need to keep pushing, until this becomes a reality! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
