Hunger strike; for Human rights, Justice and Freedom for Sindh and Sindhis
The Issue
This hunger strike is for our people, who are facing injustice in our homeland Sindh, Pakistan. The hunger strike is for seven days from 13th September to 20th September during the 77th session of the General Assembly in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA.
The purpose of the hunger strike is to secure support of world nations for the following demands of Sindhi people:
1. There are rampant enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings of Sindhis committed by powerful military of Pakistan under one guise or another. Many of these people are kept in illegal confinement without any judicial process. Families of these people have asked the courts and human rights organizations to help them for safe return of their loved one. Hundreds have been missing to date! Some of the victims are: Ayoub Kandhro, Insaaf Dayo, Murtaza Junejo, Kashif Tagar, Fatah Muhammad Khoso, Sohail Raza Bhatti. All these Sindhi activists are at the risk of torture during their captivity. The victims of “Enforced Disappearances include workers, doctors, journalists, publishers, teachers, students, and human rights defenders. We appeal to the United Nations to take action to bring justice to the people who have been illegally detained.
2. There are countless cases of forced conversion of minorities including many Hindus and some Christians, the common method used in these cases is to abduct young Sindhi Hindu or Christian girls and forcibly converted to become Muslim and marry them to Muslim men. This is a gross human rights’ violation and ask the United Nations to intervene and safeguard their human rights.
3. Sindh is suffering after devastating monsoon rains and floods where two-third of Sindh’s area has become a big lake. Hundreds of people have died, and their agricultural land has been destroyed and their livestock has washed away. Many countries of the world, United Nations, and other international organizations have pledged support for people affected by the flood. As usual government of Pakistan will likely siphon away all the aid before it reaches the actual victims of the floods. Therefore, we appeal that this support should be provided through international agencies to ensure that aid reaches the affected people directly.
4. Sindh has remained in Pakistan for last 75 years and has virtually become colony of Punjab. Sindhis are denied their national rights, language rights, land rights, water rights and all other rights. This is a serious contravention of the Pakistan resolution that was the basis for the creation of state of Pakistan. Therefore, Sindhis have right to exercise the right of Self- Determination and allowed to declare Independence from Pakistan. We appeal the United Nations to appoint special envoy to investigate and support the people of Sindh in their demand for the right of self-determination.
