The Issue

Students of the Humber Bachelor of Music program have been notified by Heather Lowry, the new associate dean, of the multiple drastic changes being made to the program. These include: abolishing the "streams" so that higher level students are not challenged, but students who need more support also do not receive it. As well as making the 2 most important courses in a performance program, private lesson and ensemble, SAT/UNSAT. These courses need a grade number, so a student can actually see their progress tangibly. These detrimental changes continue. There is talk of cutting down heavily on ensemble time, not allowing 4th years in ensembles. These are not improvements. They are efforts to DISMANTLE a beloved program that has inspired so many young musicians to reach their potential. We as students do not accept this.
