Human Rights Women’s Rights Equality

Gender inequality in Colombia continues to impact the lives of millions of women, girls, and gender-diverse people. Many still struggle to access quality education, receive fair pay, or feel safe in their own workplaces, homes, and streets. These difficulties are even harsher in rural zones and within Afro-Colombian, Indigenous, and low-income communities, where opportunities are often limited from the very beginning.
Behind every statistic, there is a real person whose dreams, safety, and dignity are affected simply because of their gender. This is not just a social problem; it is something many people in Colombia live with every single day. It affects their confidence, their opportunities, and their future. If we remain silent, gender gaps will continue to grow, and Colombia will struggle to become a fair and developed country. Working toward equality is not only the right thing to do; it is necessary to build a place where everyone has the chance to live with dignity and hope.
Reducing inequality means creating safer spaces, giving women real economic independence, and guaranteeing that every child, no matter their gender, can access education and dream freely. If nothing changes, Colombia will continue repeating the same painful stories of families trapped in poverty, people excluded simply for being who they are, and communities living with fear instead of security. We cannot allow these cycles of discrimination and violence to define our future. That is why today, more than ever, we need to lift our voices and ask for actions that truly protect and support our people.
We urge the Ministry of Equality and Equity to prioritize:
Stronger, more effective measures to prevent and address gender-based violence, so no one has to live in fear.
Equal salary protections, ensuring that every person is valued and paid fairly for their work.
Real access to education for women and girls in vulnerable and forgotten communities, giving them the opportunities they deserve.
Public campaigns that promote respect, empathy, and diversity, helping us build a more understanding and united society.
Colombia has the heart, the strength, and the potential to become a more just and compassionate nation. But true change begins with guaranteeing equality for every person who calls this country home.
