Calling for the instigation of Sisay Agena, Ethiopian Satellite Television & Radio (ESAT) journalist for promoting war threats and ‘hate speech’ against Tegaru in Ethiopia.
July 4, 2020
We, the People of Tigray in the Diaspora are calling the instigation of Sisay Agena, the journalist of Ethiopian Satellite Television & Radio (ESAT) for promoting war threats and ‘hate speech’ against Tigray Regional State in Ethiopia.
Sisay Agena has been recently promoting war messages against Tegaru using social media platforms. Some online petitions calling for the instigation of Sisay Agena, ESAT reporter were launched on Change.org and other platforms. We recognize the important role that Change.org has played in instigating hate speech and violence around the globe. However, we are concerned that social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube are failing to adequately respond to the recent surge in ‘hate speech’ and violent threats being directed at Tegaru in Northern Ethiopia. We urge Change.org and the international community to act immediately to address the recent proliferation of ‘hate speech’ and violent threats against Tegaru and to ensure that provocative rhetoric does not trigger war between Ethiopia’s northern Regional State, Tigray and Eritrea. We strongly urge the international community to influence the Ethiopian government to publicly condemn all forms of war violence directed against Tegaru. Sisay Agena is calling the Ethiopian government, Prime Minister Abyi Ahmed to wage war against its own people in collaboration with its neighboring country, Eritrea’s president Esayas Afwerki. Sisay Agena is also suggesting the Ethiopian government to cut budget and essential services such as electricity, banking, and telecommunication in Tigray. Roads connecting Tigray and Amhara regional State has been blocked for two years. Blocking roads so to starve the entire Tigray population is a crime against humanity.
The Ethiopian Satellite Television & Radio (ESAT) is primarily established to promote free press, democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law in the United States. This media has been targeting Tegaru since its establishment in 2010. Sisay Agena has been repeatedly calling the 95 million Ethiopian people against the 5 million minority Tigrean people in Northern Ethiopia. He declared genocide against the Tigrean people calling “seizing the seas to catch the fish” and that ESAT would have to kill the Tigrean people.
