Since the opening of Westbourne House on Westbourne Avenue in Hull, the Princes Avenue and Newland Avenue area has experienced a significant increase in crime and the fear of crime. Residents, who were not consulted about the opening of a hostel in a conservation area, have experienced threatening behaviour and violence. Residents, and those who frequent the popular Princes Avenue area, are also exposed to antisocial behaviour and witness drug dealing (and consuming) on a daily basis. A large number of people, including children, are reporting being intimidated, threatened and attacked to the point of having to take shelter in local shops at times. It is evident that the residents of Westbourne House are vulnerable adults with a range of complex social, medical and rehabilitative needs. However, this is evidently not being provided by Humbercare as police vehicles appear to be in the car park just as much as their own. Please sign this petition to support the argument that the inappropriate use of Westbourne House as a hostel is creating a range of problems in the area, and thus must be relocated.
